Colors of Winter Create Soothing Indoor Environments

The gray color of tree bark  . . .

. . . is the new most popular neutral. Shades that resemble a stormy sky, or the silver of holiday decorations, can be the foundation of wall paint and area rugs. Layer several gray shades for fabrics on sofas, drapes, and trims and you have a soothing palette. Or choose to jazz it up with any pop color. Lemon yellow, orange, navy blue, and even lime green or pink pop off so well. Your choice. We found a great example at our home base at DesignSourceCT in Hartford.

Pictured below, Libby put together fabrics, carpeting and wallpaper in winter tones of gray and white and chose trims in silver gray. Clear or metallic rods are like icicles for window treatments. Notice how accents of yellow, orange and lime green stand out and add a feeling of warmth.

Love the pops of yellow and turquoise pottery on the shelves and the yellow and gray pillows.

Orange on the pillows add just the right touch. Natural wood floors, door and artwork give warmth.

Great example of how lime green makes a statement even with natural accents like houseplants.

With so many pops of color in this room, we had to add this photo too.
